Hunters SALE: Summer spaces all year long

We all know that the summer months bring with them longer days of cloudless sunny skies, and with those longer days we always seen an increase in visitors stopping by for a spot of socialising, family popping over during the kids summer holidays and an increase in wining and dining occasions to celebrate events while the temperatures rise.

So what better way to embrace the season and welcome your visitors than by stashing away heavy winter furnishings and opting for a spot of lighter, more summery decor? Pick pieces that mean you spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying the hints of summer sun.

With our furniture clearance at Hunters there is no better time to renovate and revive your living spaces than during our summer clearance sale which extends to all of our products including dining ranges, seating ranges and beds.

With our top tips you can ensure that you and your visitors can bring summer into your living spaces that will last all year long optimising comfort, luxury and of course socialisation.

ercol ravenna large sofa

Opt for bright and colourful seating for rooms with less natural light. Coloured patterns will elude to summer days, think Duresta for such designs. White seating also offers the best foundation for living rooms with greater natural lighting as these pieces will reflect the light and create the illusion of more space. This large Ercol sofa offers sexy curves for maximum elegance with a lightwood finish with no danger of overpowering or darkening a room.

While winter seating arrangements are all about cosying up in front of a fire or in front of the television, summer living rooms should maximise conversation and socialising opportunities. Position your furniture, such as sofas and armchairs around a coffee table. U-shaped or circular set-ups provide the best opportunities for conversation meaning everyone can be seen.

Gplan room

Ingrid dining set

If you’re one for holding dinner parties then opt for a long rectangular table which gives better socialising opportunities and everyone to converse face to face. Look to create statements with one bold colour like the one featured in our Ingrid Modern Oak range which offers fully customisable dining chairs with a wide range of fabrics to choose from. The curves and simple lines to these pieces don’t overwhelm the room and can easily open it up.

If you’re planning on having guests over to stay then a summer makeover for your guestroom could be on the cards. From nautical inspired seashells through to seasonal floral you have a wealth of options to choose from to ensure maximum comfort for your guests. Look at sofa beds which are excellent choices not only for comfort but they also offer compact space saving solutions when you want to use your guest room for other things.

Curtains and blinds derby

Replace heavy drapes for lighter blinds and sheers which will still let in natural summer sunlight but still give necessary privacy. We offer a complete measure and fitting service for curtains and blinds. Just pop in store to find out more.

By bringing in bright colours with lively tones and accents you will be ensuring that summer is present in your home all year long.

Should You Choose a Carpet or a Wooden Floor?

There are of course positives and negatives to both carpets and wooden flooring, so here are a few things to consider when it comes to choosing which type of flooring you are going to go for; hopefully to make your decision a little easier!

If you are doing some sort of redecorating then no doubt the type of flooring that you will have is turning into a difficult decision, maybe you just need new flooring in a certain room but can’t decide which is best.

One of the main things to consider is cleanliness, there is no denying that wooden floors are much easier to maintain than carpets as they don’t absorb any dirt or spillages. Wooden floors can be wiped clean and so when marks do appear they are much easier to clean off. Therefore an important aspect of choosing your flooring is to think about the room itself for example, a kitchen is likely to see many spillages and so carpet is probably not the best idea, whereas a living room is less likely to experience as many spillages.

If anyone in your house has allergies then the presence of carpet can potentially make these allergies seem worse (obviously depending on the allergy), this is because carpets can hold dust particles which are then released into the air when someone walks across it. Of course this isn’t to say that if you have carpet your house will be constantly filled with dust and if no one has any allergies then this won’t be a problem at all!

During the cold winter months and with the ever rising cost of heating, people are looking for ways to make their houses warmer and there is no denying that carpet can do exactly that! Carpets insulate the room as well as feeling much warmer on your feet; this is why carpet is more commonly found in living rooms and bedrooms.

Leading on from the warmth of carpet, we also have the comfort of it; as it is soft it not only feels nice on your feet but also gives any room a cosy atmosphere.

Depending on the wooden flooring the initial cost of it can be much higher than carpet, so your budget can play a big part when choosing your flooring. However wooden flooring has the ability to last much longer than carpet, which will most likely need replacing every few years, so although in the long run the costs are probably fairly similar, you must consider whether you want to pay in one go or spread out.

Wooden floors are often fairly loud, your footsteps can often be heard all over the house, especially if the wooden flooring is upstairs. Carpet on the other hand is not only quiet but it can act as insulation and reduce the noise that travels through the floors.

All in all there are many advantages and disadvantages to both carpets and wooden floors, the major factor in deciding which is best is the room itself; the use of the room will determine which is most appropriate for example a carpet in a kitchen is really a no-no, whereas a carpet in a bedroom is a much cosier option.

If you are looking for new flooring then why not visit Hunters Furniture who have been furnishing Derby since 1928, their expertise makes them the perfect place to visit for wooden flooring or carpets Derby; alternatively if you would like more information just get in touch today!
