How to Accessorise your Home this Autumn

by Gravity Digital
Whether you have a minimalist style or prefer a more traditional approach with your Décor, there are many options of how to effectively choose the right accessories to make the most out of your space.

Autumn is a wonderful time to refresh your home with new colours and lighting and this season’s most popular colour choices are deep pinks, olive greens and rich russets

Here are a few tips and a little advice to help you choose the right accessories for the look you desire.

Decorative and Art

We all have very different tastes when it comes to decorative ornaments and objects. Our collections can be an eclectic mix from travels, or gifts from loved ones and many of us love to surround ourselves with decorations that bring memories flooding back.

Introducing new ornaments and décor items is great fun! New pieces can complete a room whether that’s a clock, vase, mirror or sculpture. Firstly, think about where it will sit, either on a table, the floor or a shelf, then look at the space and visualise if it needs to be colourful and bold, or neutral and calming – then go and have fun searching for the right piece.

Wall art is something that is worth taking your time to choose. Our advice is that if you see artwork, photograph or print that makes you stop and gaze, then that’s right for you. Try not to use someone else’s style, go with your own feelings, especially when you enjoy looking at a certain picture.

Soft Furnishings

Cushions, blankets and rugs are a great way of introducing colour, texture and comfort to your home. Soft furnishings are also one of the easiest and quickest ways to experiment with colour – without the commitment of redecorating.

We love warm shades of olive and yellows that can be a great contrast with the neutral background. If you have darker furniture, then to accentuate with a burst of colour can create a whole new look. Our advice is to be bold and you will be surprised how well things can come together when you out it all together.

Tableware

Plates, bowls, cups and cutlery are used every day and also on special occasions, so it’s great to have good quality table wear that looks good, feels good and fits in with your own character.

The first place to start is writing down a list of what you want before you get swept away when you are shopping – with so much choice it’s hard to resist more than you may need or use! Think about what you want at how you will use your crockery, for instance, how many people you normally cook for and consider if you need two of everything, a set of four for a family, or enough plates to feed a dozen dinner guests.

What sizes do you want, do you like oversized dishes and plates, and do you want three sizes of bowl or will one size and dinner platters work for all of your dishes.

Find that personal touch, whether you like crockery with a decorative rim or simple style that are simpler. Tableware comes in a wide range of designs ranging from casual to stylish and a whole lot in between. The more formal dinnerware sets are usually made from china or stoneware. Earthenware and melamine are great casual dinnerware sets so it’s good to know if you want something that is durable for your everyday use, or finer statement sets for the more formal gatherings. If you can it’s a good idea to have one set for your everyday use and other sets for those special occasions.
